The full moon of Thadingyut is a significant day of Myanmar people and it is the end of Buddhist lent. It is also the Lighting festival of Myanmar and it celebrates to welcome the descent of Buddha from heaven after He preached Abidhama to His mother. On Sunday, people celebrated the end of the three-month Buddhist Rain Retreat by donating offertories to members of the Sangha and offering lights at pagodas in Nay Pyi Taw.

Starting that day morning, pagodas in Nay Pyi Taw were thronged with people who make good deeds and crowded with pilgrims. In the evening, Buddhist devotees offered lights at pagodas in Nay Pyi Taw. The government office buildings and remarkable places, staff housings, wards and streets across Nay Pyi Taw were also illuminated with colourful lights, dedicating to Lord Buddha.

Likewise, in Mandalay, people offered water, flowers and gold foils at Maha Muni Budhha Imgae on the significant day. The famous pagodas in Mandalay were also crowded with Buddhist people, who placed flowers, fruit, water, oil lamps and gold leaf.

People also donated rice and offertories to the sanghas and nuns and well wishers also donated charity food. In the evening, various buildings in Mandalay City were illuminated with multi-coloured lights.
