On April 10, the Ministry of Electricity and Energy signed an agreement with North Petro-Chem Corporation (Myanmar) Limited to increase oil production at the Htauk Shar Pin–Kan Ni oil field.

Union Minister U Ko Ko Lwin said the project will help boost domestic crude oil output, reduce fuel shortages, and benefit the public. He noted that Myanmar’s oil fields are old and need modern technology and better equipment to improve production.

He also said the government is encouraging standard oil drilling operations instead of traditional hand-dug wells, and 36 local groups have already been allowed to carry out such projects. The company promised to follow the agreement and work to deliver results quickly.
