Agro-Transformation: Workshop On Agriculture And Rural Transformation Held

The Workshop for Agriculture, Value Chains and Rural Transformation in Myanmar was held at Sedona Hotel, Yangon.

The workshop was jointly organized by Michigan State University, Center for Economic and Social Development and International Food Policy Research Institute. H.E. Mr. Scot  Marciel, Ambassador of the United States of America and Dr.Thanda Kyi, Deputy Director General, Department of Planning, gave the opening speech.

Ambassador, Embassy of the United States of America, H.E. Scot  Marciel said “…We are really exciting about this event because USAID is really closely with the Ministry of Agriculture and LIFT and other partners. We prepare and working together to get a lot of information about what is really happening in rural area of farmers. So that the Ministry can set  out the policy that are based on the most update  to date factual information. That should going to make the policy a lot and more effective and should have the farming sector a lot to lift…”

The workshop was conducted with four sections of food security program, the regional agricultural transformation and accessing and utilizing land, credit and seed, the transformation in the Oil Milling Sector in the Dry zone and Delta region.   

Deputy Director General, Department of Planning, MOALI, Dr.Thanda Kyi said “Now we have the Agriculture Policy Unit and we are working on it. Today workshop is about sharing the statistics information of the farmers that we did research about half a decade of evidence based on policy research. We are sharing the information with development partners and other collaborators.”

The information and the panel discussion focused on the half a decade of evidence-based policy research.
