In Ayeyawady Region, amid escalating military tensions, security has been tightened at Pathein Prison, and the delivery of medicines and food parcels has reportedly been restricted, according to a false report published on a Facebook page named Khit Thit Media.
It has been clarified that there are no political prisoners or detainees in the prison, only individuals serving sentences for violating existing laws. At Pathein Prison, medicines sent by family members for inmates are systematically inspected, registered, and reviewed by the prison doctor. After a health check, the medicines are administered under the supervision of medical staff. Parcels and books are only accepted in accordance with the prison manual and relevant laws, and unrelated items are not permitted. Inmates can purchase goods using their deposited funds, and efforts are made to ensure prices are comparable to those outside the prison. Claims that inmates are forced to buy overpriced goods from the prison canteen are untrue, according to the officials concerned of the prison.
Additionally, to ensure an adequate supply of drinking water, a 7,000-gallon ground tank supplies water to a purification system via an electric motor. The purified water is then distributed daily in 20-liter bottles to each dormitory in the morning and evening. Water tanks are regularly cleaned to maintain hygiene. Claims that inmates lack drinking water and are forced to use bathing water, or that bathing water contains Lead substance, are false.
Healthcare is provided daily by the prison doctor, and monthly health check-ups are conducted in collaboration with the Department of Health. External medical services are also documented and can be reviewed on the Prison Department's website. The false report by Khit Thit Media appears to be a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.
