






Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation Dr. Thaung Naing Oo attended a discussion on the development of wood-based industries on the afternoon of the 23rd at the meeting hall of the Environmental Conservation Department in Yangon Region.
Attendees included officials from the Forest Department and Myanma Timber Enterprise, as well as chairpersons, vice chairpersons, and central executive members from the Myanmar Forest Products and Timber Merchants Association, the Myanmar Wood-Based Furniture Entrepreneurs Association, the Myanmar Wood-Based Handicrafts Association, and the Myanmar Rattan/Bamboo Entrepreneurs Association.
During the discussion, the Deputy Minister stated that balanced cooperation between the government and private sectors is important for the development of wood-based industries. He said that participation in international and regional furniture and wood product exhibitions would help connect with stakeholders across the sector, including access to new markets, and would create opportunities to further develop Myanmar’s wood-based industry sector. He also emphasized that strengthening the role of the private sector is essential for the development of wood-based industries.
Afterwards, officials from the Forest Department and Myanma Timber Enterprise responded to and discussed the presentations made by the attending association chairpersons and vice chairpersons, while the Deputy Minister added further remarks and guidance where necessary.
The Deputy Minister then visited the permanent nursery garden in Ahlone Township, Yangon Region, to inspect the conditions of plant cultivation and distribution. Responsible officials explained the current operations, and the Deputy Minister gave necessary instructions and guidance, it’s reported.
