An in-person interview and assessment for applicants seeking permanent residency in Myanmar was held on June 24 at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Immigration and Population in Nay Pyi Taw. The event was attended by the Chairman of the Central Committee for the Implementation of Permanent Residency for Foreigners, Union Minister for Immigration and Population U Myint Kyaing, who met with members of the Central Committee and delivered opening remarks before the interviews and assessments began.

In his remarks, the Central Committee Chairman, Union Minister explained that the purpose of the in-person assessment program was to closely evaluate the applicants’ capabilities, knowledge, experience, goodwill toward Myanmar, and blood ties to the country. He emphasized that the scrutiny process must ensure that national security and national interests are not harmed, while also assessing applicants based on their respect for and compliance with existing laws. He further stated that the 24 applicants who responded to attend the interview process should be carefully reviewed and evaluated by the attending Central Committee members from all aspects in order to safeguard and promote the interests of the State.

Next, on behalf of the Secretary of the Central Committee, Director General U Ye Tun Oo from the Department of Immigration explained the arrangements and procedures for conducting the interviews and assessments of permanent residency applicants.

Afterwards, the Union Minister and members of the Central Committee individually interviewed and assessed a total of 24 applicants who had already been preliminarily approved by the committee. These included one expert professional, one investor, 15 former Myanmar citizens, and seven foreign nationals related to them by blood ties. The discussions covered personal background information, understanding and compliance with the prescribed PR regulations, and their ability to reside in accordance with existing laws. The committee then conducted evaluations, confirmations, and reviews regarding approval decisions.

In his concluding remarks, the Union Minister stated that after the interview and assessment process for the permanent residency system is completed and confirmed, the results will be submitted to higher authorities for approval. For those granted approval, the ministry will continue processing according to departmental procedures in order to issue residency certificates and identification cards, it’s reported.
