Flooding has affected 20 wards and several villages across six townships in Ayeyawady Region after water broke through a sand layer beneath the Ngawun River embankment in Laymyethna Township.

The flooding began on July 30 following heavy rain and riverbank erosion. Affected areas include Laymyethna, Hinthada, Zalun, Ngathaingchaung, Kyangin and Kyaunggon townships. Water levels have started to fall in several areas.

Authorities and local volunteers are continuing rescue and relief operations, including food distribution, emergency healthcare and support for affected residents. Officials are also carrying out embankment reinforcement works, including placing large geobags and sandbags and installing steel sheet piles to prevent further flooding.
