Union Government Meeting: Efforts for reconstruction works in quake-hit areas

The Union Government held its meeting in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday with an address by Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.

In his speech, the Prime Minister outlined the arrangements for providing cash assistance to the quake-affected people for their damaged buildings. He also stressed for reconstruction of schools, hospitals and government offices, ensuring durability through conducting soil test, while relocating the buildings that have been situated on the earthquake fault lines.

He added that arrangements are underway to restructure the Nay Pyi Taw City layout, stressing the need to learn from the earthquake prone countries in terms of construction practices.For reconstruction of the staff housings, the Prime Minister stressed that the buildings must be resilient earthquake measuring up to 8 Richeter Scale. He also instructed to make systematic repair works for rail roads and motor ways as well as bridges and irrigation facilities.

The attendees provided update reports on the aftershocks and its findings following the severe Mandalay earthquake, arrival of relief supplies from international communities and distribution process, repairs of roads, bridges and communication channels, damages of the staff housings and phase-by-phase renovation works, damages of office buildings, and providing health treatment at the temporary hospitals as well as the relocation of staff and their families, plans for disease prevention measures, issuance of National Registration Cards and Household List and sales of mobile market in the quake-hit areas.

The Prime Minister urged all to expedite the tasks with the collective efforts of all concerned personnel, overcoming the challenges. He added that the reconstruction works have been carried out with the support of international communities including the ASEAN association.
