A meeting between the Union Election Commission (UEC) and political parties was held on January 5 at the meeting hall of the Union Election Commission office in Nay Pyi Taw.

At the meeting, UEC Chairman U Than Soe delivered a speech. He stated that Phase (1) of the election was successfully held on December 28, 2025, and efforts are underway to continue holding Phases (2) and (3). He urged that election campaigning activities be conducted systematically in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations.

He warned that slandering and defaming opposing parties and candidates could constitute a criminal offense as well as an electoral offense. He emphasized that demeaning and attacking another party during campaigns is considered unethical behavior that would damage the image of both the election and the party itself.

The UEC Chairman explained that the UEC has publicly posted the voter lists three times to ensure completeness and accuracy, and has notified the public about the procedures for requesting inclusion, amendments, or objections to the list in accordance with the law.

Regarding advance voting, he detailed the transparent process carried out in accordance with laws, bylaws, and procedures, noting that an announcement was issued on January 2nd 2026.

The processes for advance voting, vote counting, compiling vote lists, and public posting were conducted accurately, transparently, and in accordance with laws, bylaws, and procedures, with invitations extended to political parties, parliamentary candidates, election agents, witnesses, and the public. The obtained vote lists have been posted at the respective sub-commission offices for public information.

He mentioned that to have the multi-party democracy general election recognized as a free, fair, and transparent election, approximately 1,544 international election observers, international and domestic media organizations, and journalists were permitted to observe, monitor, and gather news. International election observers witnessed the enthusiasm and high voter turnout, commenting that it was a successful election and offering supportive and acknowledging remarks.

He also expressed gratitude to the voters who came to cast their votes amidst various challenges. He stated that the Commission will continue to work in accordance with electoral laws, bylaws, and procedures, with accuracy and transparency, to ensure a free and fair election. He expressed belief that through a dignified election, dignified parliaments can be formed.

Subsequently, representatives from the political parties attending the meeting discussed matters related to the election and political party affairs. Members of the Union Election Commission and officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the General Administration Department, and the Ministry of Immigration and Population provided clarifications and engaged in discussions.
