Consumer Protection Commission: Commission Chairman MoC UM addressed the meeting

Chairman of the Myanmar Consumer Protection Commission, Union Minister for Commerce U Chit Swe, attended and delivered an address at the Myanmar Consumer Protection Commission Work Coordination Meeting (1/2026) held at Office No. 52 of the Ministry of Commerce in Nay Pyi Taw on January 6.

In his address, the Union Minister stated that the Consumer Protection Law 2019 and the Consumer Protection By-law 2022 have been enacted. Consumer protection tasks are being supervised and implemented in collaboration with relevant government organizations, non-governmental consumer protection associations, private sector organizations, and business owners.

He emphasized that consumer protection concerns all citizens, and in protecting consumer rights, it is necessary to provide safeguards through other related laws as well, requiring integrated and coordinated efforts. He noted that from January to December 2025, out of a total of 285 consumer complaints, the Yangon Region and Mandalay Region had the highest number of complaints, with most complaints related to telecommunications services and electronic commerce services.

He pointed out that the high volume of complaints should be reviewed and analyzed, and it is necessary to carry out awareness-raising and requisite enforcement actions. He further stated that if producer-business owners can provide goods and services that meet the needs and desires of consumers, they will be able to shape a fair market and also achieve sustainability in the long term.

Following that, the Commission Secretary, Director-General of the Department of Consumer Affairs U Khin Maung Hlaing, explained the implementation status of the Department of Consumer Affairs' tasks, the progress on decisions from previous meetings, and matters requiring the Commission's decisions. The Commission Chairman and members provided suggestions and discussions on the presentations, it’s learnt.
