












State Administration Council Member, Deputy Prime Minister, and Union Minister for Transport and Communications, General Mya Tun Oo, Inspects Earthquake-Damaged Sites in Mandalay Region during the morning and afternoon on April 14.
The Deputy Prime Minister General Mya Tun Oo, accompanied by relevant officials, inspected earthquake-damaged sites in Mandalay Region, including Mandalay International Airport, the Regional Directorate of Communications Office in Pyigyitagon Township, Myanmar Posts and Telecommunications (Mail Exchange Office), Myanmar Postal Services, Mandalay Central Railway Station, the Regional Directorate of Road Transport office, Chanmyathazi Airport and Sagaing Bridge (Inwa) and the inspection covered the extent of damage to infrastructure, staff housing conditions, and the temporary relocation sites for affected staff.
First, the SAC member Union Minister and officials visited Mandalay International Airport to assess the damage caused by the earthquake and inspected the condition of the airport terminal building, temporary passenger terminals set up for domestic flight arrivals and departures, preparations for reopening international flights, including temporary arrival and departure terminals, damage to the runway, the structural integrity of the temporary air traffic control tower and the earthquake-affected main control tower.
The Union Minister instructed officials to systematically prepare for the resumption of international flights starting April 25 and to ensure the safety of staff. Necessary support was also provided.
Next, the Deputy Prime Minister and officials visited the Region Directorate of Communications Office, Myanmar Posts and Telecommunications, and Myanmar Postal Services in Pyigyitagon Township. They inspected the damaged office buildings and met with personnel and their families to offer encouragement and support.
The Union Minister and officials then proceeded to Mandalay Central Railway Station, Myanmar Railways Rest House (Mandalay), and the Regional Directorate of Road Transport Office. They met with departmental staff under the ministry, provided necessary assistance, and offered words of encouragement. They also inspected the old Chanmyathazi Airport site and the passenger terminal, issuing further instructions as needed.
After that, the Deputy Prime Minister and party inspected the earthquake-damaged Sagaing Bridge (Inwa). They assessed the collapse of six steel truss spans into the Ayeyarwady River and the damage to the bridge abutments. Due to the partial collapse of the bridge, temporary transportation disruptions have occurred.
To facilitate alternative travel, the Inland Water Transport Department has deployed public ferries and private cargo vessels to transport trucks and heavy machinery between Mandalay (Shwe Kyet Yet) Jetty and Sagaing Jetty. The Union Minister reviewed these arrangements and provided further instructions to responsible officials.
