Drugs seizures: 1.49 million stimulant tablets seized

In Thazi Township and Hpa-an Township, over 3.7 billion kyats worth of stimulant tablets, totaling 1.49 million pills, have been seized, according to the Myanmar Police Force.

Acting on a tip-off, a combined team comprising of members of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force intercepted a MITSUBISHI PAJERO vehicle driven by A Ba (aka) A Sa, accompanied by Ma Moe Moe Aye, near Kywetatkone village in Thazi Township, Mandalay Region, at 10:30 PM on February 6. The vehicle, en route from Taunggyi to Yangon, was found to contain 500,000 stimulant tablets.

At 8:30 AM on February 7, at Highway bus terminal in Hpa-an, Kayin State, two individuals, Tun Zaw Day Oo and Phyu Phyu Aung, were arrested along with a TOYOTA NOAH VOXY vehicle. Hidden inside dried fish bags, 990,000 stimulant tablets were seized. Further investigations led to the arrest of Saw Ohn Kywe (aka) Ohn Kyaw in Ward 5 of Myawaddy Township at 2:00 PM, found with a motorcycle, and Toe Toe Tun (aka) Toe Gyi and Kaung Set Kyaw (aka) Ko Set in Ward 4 of Myawaddy Township, found with a TOYOTA WISH vehicle. In total, stimulant tablets worth over 3.7 billion kyats, amounting to 1.49 million pills, were confiscated.

Investigations revealed that the seized stimulant tablets were being transported from Shan State to the Myawaddy border area for sale. Legal action has been taken against the arrested individuals, and efforts are ongoing to uncover further links in the criminal network.
