Meeting with Chinese Nationals: Meetings aimed to promote tourism operation

Union Minister for Hotels, Tourism and Culture U Maung Myint, together with officials, visited Double Rhinos Cement Factory, Mandalay Smile Company and Alpha Cement Factory in the Kyaukse Industrial Zone, Mandalay on June 22 and met Chinese nationals working at the sites.

Company representatives presented updates on their respective sectors, followed by an opening remark from the Union Minister. He said the visit aimed to promote tourism cooperation between Myanmar and China and to highlight what he described as the actual situation in Myanmar. He also noted a decline of around 75 percent in Chinese tourist arrivals compared to pre-COVID-19 levels.

The Union Minister attributed the decline to misinformation and negative reporting in some foreign media and films and encouraged Chinese workers to share their experiences of Myanmar through social media to help promote tourism.

Interviews were conducted with 11 Chinese nationals from Double Rhinos Cement Factory and Alpha Cement Factory, during which they expressed positive views about living and working conditions in Myanmar and said they would share their experiences with families and contacts in China.

Souvenir keychains were presented to the participants and the recorded interviews are expected to be used in tourism promotional content targeting the Chinese market, it’s reported.
