









A ceremonial offering of ‘Soon’ (day meal) to the venerable Sayadaws who attended the Grand Auspicious Ceremony held in commemoration of the Full Moon Day of Kason (Buddha Day), took place on the morning of April 30 at the Aggadhipati Sasana Beikman within the Maravijaya Buddha Park. Vice President U Nyo Saw, accompanied by his wife, and Vice President Daw Nan Ni Ni Aye, attended and offered donation items and the day meal.
Before the ceremony commenced, Vice President U Nyo Saw paid homage to the Scale Model of the Maravijaya Buddha image inside the Aggadhipati Sasana Beikman by offering a meal of rice in an emerald bowl, fruits, flowers, water, and lighting oil lamps.
Afterwards, the audience led by Vice President U Nyo Saw and his wife, and Vice President Daw Nan Ni Ni Aye, received the Nine Precepts from the Joint-Secretary of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, the Presiding Sayadaw of Sasana Vepulla Monastery in Meiktila, The Kason Full Moon Day of the year of 1388 Myanmar Era marks the 70th Anniversary of the Sixth Buddhist Council.
The celebration is being held at the Maha Pasana Cave within the compound of Kaba Aye Pagoda in Yangon for 3 days from 30th April to the 2nd of May.
In order to flourishing of the original Buddha’s teachings, the Buddhist Councils were held for six times in cooperation with the respective Governments and its people under the leadership of the successive members of the Sangha from Theravada Countries.
Myanmar hosted Fifth Council in Mandalay during the reign of King Mindon and the Sixth Council in Yangon at the Maha Pasana Cave in the compound of Kaba Aye Pagoda.
The 70th Anniversary of the Sixth Buddhist Council features the unveiling of commemorative stone pillar, ceremonial procession of Tipitaka Texts, Special exhibitions of photographs, memorabilia and statues, quiz competitions, paper-reading sessions and special Dhamma Assemblies. The celebrations for the 70th anniversary of Sixth Buddhist Council is set to be held for three days at Maha Pasana Cave of KabaAye Pagoda in Yangon till May 2.
