Promoting Mutual Understanding: China-Myanmar Youth Exchange Event

Aiming to promote mutual understanding and close ties among youths between Myanmar and China through enhancing people-to-people connectivity, China-Myanmar Youth Exchange Event was held at the Center for Research and Innovation within University of Yangon campus on September 3rd.

During the event, youth representatives from Yangon University and Chinese Embassy in Myanmar exchanged views on people to people relations, cultural, tourism, education and media cooperation.

3rd Year Student, Thin Thandar Su, University of Yangon said " Today, I discussed people to people connectivity between Myanmar and China. The program is crucial for student like me because it can help to enhance connection between students of the two countries. Through this program, student participation will be increased in scholarship programs and student exchange programs. I really grateful to be one of the participants here and get motivated to join scholarship and exchange programs in the future while advancing my public speaking skill."

1st Year Student, Kay Zin Lin, University of Yangon said "My discussion focused on cultural exchange between Myanmar and China. As Myanmar and China shared diverse culture and traditions, young generations need to preserve and share these different kinds of culture and traditions in collaborative manners while building close ties among youths of the two countries. I got many experience from today’s event and I would like to join future discussions." 

This is the first time Yangon University hosted this kind of event, with the participation of student representatives. Plans are also underway to sign the MoUs between the University of Yangon and more than 12 universities from China for student exchange programs.

Rector, Dr. Thaung Htike, University of Yangon said "Depending on close relations between the Yangon University and universities in China, we are planning to sign MOUs with 12 universities and above in China. Under scholarship programs, students from our university are currently studying in China including Yunnan University. On August, 3 representative teams from Yangon University participated in annual cross-border youth exchange and innovation initiative, the Youth Innovation Competition on Lancang-Mekong Region's Governance and Development (YICMG), under the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation framework. In cooperation with China, our university is focused on education promotion, staff exchange, teaching and learning system especially on youth exchange program."

The meeting brought together about 160 attendees including youths and media experts from China and Myanmar to enhance media cooperation and further strengthen Pauk-Phaw Friendship.
