Making ground inspection: Kachin State CM made ground inspection to prevent flood

A record-high water levels of the Ayeyarwady River caused extensive flooding nearly entire area of Myitkyina Township Kachin State occurred on June 31st and July 1st, 2024. In response, Chief Minister U Khet Htein Nan conducted an on-site inspection along the Ayeyarwady Riverbanks on November 25. The inspection aimed to assess flood prevention measures, including riverbank reinforcements, flood barriers, and the installation of water gates at major water entry points, based on the highest recorded water level.

During the inspection, the Chief Minister, accompanied by state government ministers and departmental officials, reviewed completed riverbank reinforcements and plans for new constructions. Discussions focused on dividing construction into six phases, allocating budgets accordingly, and conducting preliminary feasibility studies to prioritize and implement projects.

The Chief Minister also inspected plans to strengthen flood barriers and raise protective walls along completed riverbank reinforcements near the Balaminhtin Bridge. Furthermore, at the site of the under-construction Balaminhtin Bridge (2), he examined the terrain over a 10,000-foot stretch upstream where new riverbank reinforcements are proposed. He directed immediate commencement of feasibility studies and preparation of action plans to address the requirements in a timely manner.

Later, the Chief Minister and party visited vegetable farms in Waingmaw Township to evaluate their productivity and ensure continued success. The Chief Minister coordinated requirements with the local officials to address any outstanding needs and provide necessary support.

On November 26 the Chief Minister convened the (2/2024) Kachin State Regional Tourism Coordination Committee meeting at the State Government Office. The meeting was attended by committee members, including the Committee Vice Chairman, State Minister for Economic Affairs, and officials from the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism, along with regional representatives.

During the meeting, updates were provided on tourism-related developments, the outcomes of the (1/2024) coordination meeting, and the applications submitted to the committee. These included license renewals and new applications for hotels, guesthouses, and tour guide services. Committee members discussed the matters, shared recommendations, and presented findings.

The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of coordinating with committee members to facilitate tourism development. He provided guidance on processing license renewals and new applications and instructed that any additional requirements be addressed promptly.
