School Football Tournament : Rakhine State CM attended the opening ceremony

The opening ceremony of the 2026 Monsoon Basic Education Schools Boys' Football Tournament, organized by the Rakhine State Government, was held in the evening of July 1 at Dhanyawadi Stadium in Sittwe. Rakhine State Chief Minister U Naing Oo attended the ceremony and delivered the opening address.

In his remarks, the Chief Minister said that the Basic Education Schools Football Tournament is being organized with the objectives of promoting the physical fitness and well-being of students, encouraging them to participate in sports as a means of avoiding drug abuse, nurturing athletes who can represent Rakhine State, and fostering the emergence of healthy, strong, and well-rounded young people possessing the five essential physical and mental strengths.

The Rakhine State Chief Minister and the Patron of the Rakhine State Women's Affairs Organization then presented sports equipment to the participating teams.

The tournament officially commenced with the opening match between the football teams of Basic Education High School No. 9 and Basic Education High School No. 5. Basic Education High School No. 9 won the match 1–0.

The 2026 Monsoon Basic Education Schools Boys' Football Tournament will be held from July 1 to July 23, with 11 school teams competing. Members of the public and football enthusiasts are welcome to attend and watch the matches free of charge, it’s reported.
