School library development: Taninthayi Region CM attended the event

Organized by Taninthayi Region Government, collaborated by the Information and Public Relations Department and Department of Basic Education, the event for the development of school libraries and raising reading habit was held at No (7) Basic Education High School in Dawei Township on 20th November.

No (6) Basic Education High School, Pan gantgaw Yanant Private High School and Mudita Private Middle School participated in the contests of the festival and the responsible persons assessed the contests and gave the scores. First, the students from Pan gantgaw Yanant Private High School with a song of “Knowledge Bank of Library” and the students from Mudita Private Middle School with a song of “National Literature of Cultural Heritage” presented the performances.

Speaking on the occasion, the Taninthayi Region Chief Minister U Myat Ko said that the government consistently works to encourage people to read and to create favorable environments for reading, aiming to enhance the knowledge and understanding among the public. It has been stated that if the nation is to build its future with well-educated youth, it will stand equal with other countries on the global stage. Since 70% of the country’s population resides in rural areas, efforts should be made to establish libraries and ensure access to books and reading materials for rural communities.Additionally, campaigns to motivate everyone to read, raise awareness, and provide education must continue. It is important not only to achieve literacy and technical skills but also to nurture critical thinking and intellectual development. Responsible individuals, parents, and teachers are urged to work diligently to foster a generation of youth who are well-rounded, knowledgeable, and capable in all aspects.

Next, the Chief Minister presented the gifts of honor to four students who participated in the panel discussion on youth literature and winner groups in the debate contest and the Chief Justice of the Region High Court awarded the prize winner students in the contest of impromptu talk.

Then, the Region Ministers awarded the prizes to the winner students in the High school level essay contest, middle level impromptu talk and essay contests.

Next, the responsible individuals also presented the gifts of honor to the prize winner students and the parents and teachers association, well-wishers and the Region Women’s Affairs Association and Maternal and Child Welfare Supervisory Association provided cash donations for the school library.

Then, the prize winner students demonstrated the prize-winning contest topics and performed with a song “Let’s build the modern developed nation with education”.
