Dhammacakkha Day : Waso Fullmoon Ceremonies held across the nation

Waso fullmoon or Dhammacakkha Day is a significant day of Myanmar Buddhists and it also the day when Buddha preached his First Sermon Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta.

On the Waso fullmoon day (Tuesday), People across the nation make meritorious deeds such as waso robe offering, offering waso flowers, making donations and taking Sabbath. The prominent pagodas in Nay Pyi Taw were crowded with pilgrims who performed good deeds.

The offering ceremony of golden lotus Waso robes was held at the Uppatasanti Pagoda on Tuesday morning and it was crowded with pilgrims from all parts of the country and 1,000 lights offering ceremony was held at the pagoda in the evening. Similarly, Thatta Thattaha Maha Bawdi Pagoda in Nay Pyi Taw Ottara Thiri Township was also crowded with people.

 Likewise, Waso Fullmoon (Dhammacakkha Day) ceremonies organized by Shwedagon Pagoda Treasury Board of Trustees at the designated places of the pagoda platform on Tuesday morning. First, the dawn meal or Soon offering ceremony of Shwedagon Pagoda was held at the prayer hall of the pagoda platform and officials, members of the Pagoda Board of Trustees and religious associations donated food, flowers, water and lights to the pagoda.

It was followed by Waso Fullmoon (Dhammacakkha Day) ceremony at the prayer hall of ancient Buddha Images. Concerned officials, members of the Pagoda Board of Trustees and religious associations recited religious sermons and shared the merits gained. Likewise, the waso robe offering ceremony of Buddha images, ceremony of taking Waso Fullmoon Precept and libation ceremony of waso robe offering were held at the pagoda.

The congregation, religious associations and well-wishers listened to the parittas and religious sermons recited by Ovada Sariya Sayadaw and donated offertories to the Sayadaws. Moreover, ceremonies of the fullmoon day of Waso (Dhammacakkha Day) were also held at the respective pagodas and temples in Yangon and Waso robes were donated to the Buddha images at the pagodas.

 Moreover, the prominent pagodas and stupas in Mandalay including Maha Muni Buddha image were teemed with people who performed meritorious deeds and made donations. The remarkable places were also crowded with people who took relaxation.
