








Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing on Friday inspected the locomotive factory (Insein) of Myanma Railways in Insein Township of Yangon Region.
During the inspection, the Senior General said that preparations must be made for building diesel-electric multiple units (DEMU) assembled with parts manufactured at home and abroad through international technologies for the first phase.
Union Minister for Transport and Communications Admiral Tin Aung San and Managing Director of the Myanma Railways Thura U Aung Myo Myint reported on a brief history of the factory, its missions and visions, maintenance capacity, upgrade of locomotive power, manufacturing of parts, major maintenance of steamed locomotives and test running and capacity enhancement for staff.
In his response, the Senior General said as locomotives are valuable, it is necessary to emphasize the best maintenance and upgrade of capacity as much as possible.
Efforts must be made for running electric trains. He stressed the need to prepare the running of electric multiple units (EMU) from the DEMU.
Diesel locomotives are being used along the circular railway of Yangon. It is necessary to conduct research on the running of electric trains in the country.
As electric locomotives will be used for rail transportation across the nation, the locomotive factory (Insein) needs to manufacture small electric locomotives under research works and then upgrade the works for manufacturing the standard electric locomotives.
The Senior General also viewed round assembling locomotives, maintenance works, upgrading of locomotive capacity, transforming steam locomotives into the coal-fired locomotives, and manufacturing spare parts for the locomotives.
At the circular diesel locomotive factory, the Senior General viewed round new DEMU carriages from Japan and gave instructions to officials.
At the Insein Railway Hospital, the Senior General heard reports on daily healthcare services for staff and families, retired staff and local people and the requirement of health staff. There, the Senior General comforted patients and gave foodstuffs.
