The Kachin State Government is working to boost food security and expand monsoon and summer paddy, and oil crop cultivation.

On Friday, Chief Minister U Khet Htein Nan provided inputs to improve monsoon paddy yields in Kantkaw Myaing village, Myitkyina Township. During the meeting, the Chief Minister urged farmers to use a balanced mixture of natural and chemical fertilizers for sustainable soil development and to follow systematic farming practices to achieve target yields.

This was followed by the provision of Paclobutrazol, foliar and potash fertilizers. A farmer gave words of thanks for the provision and outlined plans for joint crop production efforts. The Chief Minister, concerned officials, and farmers later viewed the thriving monsoon paddy fields in Kantkaw Myaing, where they observed the use of natural and chemical fertilizers and foliar application.

He also coordinated multi-cropping methods and requirements to boost yields after the monsoon season. In 2024-2025, over 480,000 acres of monsoon paddy were planted within the State, yielding more than 339 million baskets. The State Government and the Department of Agriculture are striving to boost yields through farmer education and input support, with a 2025-2026 target to expand cultivation by 50,000 acres.

As of August 31, more than 460,000 acres have been planted, according to the Department of Agriculture. Next, the Chief Minister held a work coordination meeting with State Ministers, state-level departmental officials, and other concerned officials at the State Government Office to prepare for 26th Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competition at state level.

The Chief Minister said the state-level competition is set to be held on September 9 and 10, and urged the relevant officials to present the needs openly and coordinate effectively. State Minister for Ethnic Affairs U Kyaw Min Khaing then outlined competition categories, age groups, and selection plans, while sub-committees presented arrangements and requirements.

State government members also discussed and shared experiences from past competitions. The Chief Minister coordinated the requirements for sending qualified contestants to the central level competition and provided necessary requirement.
