Meeting With Foreign News Agencies: Union Minister For Information Gives Virtual Interviews

Union Minister for Information U Maung MaungOhn on Wednesday afternoon gave virtual interviews to the South China Morning Post, Nikkei Asian News, Kyodo News, TBS and Asahi Shinbon news agencies.

In his opening address, the Union Minister stressed the State Administration Council’s efforts, importance of perpetual peace for building a democratic federal union and peace talks with NCA signatories and non-signatories.

In the interviews, regarding the situation in Rakhine, Chin and Kayah states, the Union Minister said that the CRPH, NUG and PDF have been committing terrorism and violence acts and the security forces and police have been working on security and law enforcement measures.

Regarding the upcoming general election, peace process and investment situations, he stressed that the general election would be held after the State Administration Council completed the 5-point road map; ceasefire announcements and peace talks on the 75th Union Day; and implementation of the Investor Targeting Campaign and Myanmar Economic Recovery Plan (MERP). Regarding the public hearing at the ICJ, the Union Minister said that that the case is inadmissible, Myanmar is not, therefore, seeking to impede the judicial processes of the Court, in fact, Myanmar is seeking to ensure the proper administration of justice.

Myanmar presented its first round of oral argument on 21 February; the Gambia will present its first round of oral argument on February 23; and Myanmar will make its second round of oral argument on February 25 by the Gambia’s second round of oral argument on February 28.

Regarding the displaced persons who want to be repatriated voluntarily to Rakhine State, the Union Minister said that there’s no Rohingya but they are Bengalis, and any person holding the National Verification Card can apply for citizenship, associate citizenship or naturalized citizenship.
