A ceremony was held on Saturday to explain the establishment of the Maravijaya Buddha Image. The Buddha Image is currently being constructed in Deckkhina Thiri Township, located in the Union Territory Nay Pyi Taw.
Once completed, it will stand as the tallest sitting Buddha Image in the world carved out of stone.
During the event, Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing highlighted the significance of the Abaya Razamuni Buddha Image, which was established in the Buddha Park near Pan Kwe Village in Kengtung, Shan State (East) in 2018.
The main objectives of creating the Abaya Razamuni Buddha Image were to foster peace and tranquility in the region and to boost socio-economic development within the local community by leveraging the potential of the tourism industry, consequently generating more job opportunities.
The Prime Minister went on to explain the step-by-step process of excavating the massive stone systematically, transporting it via river and land routes, seeking guidance from the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Sayadaws, constructing related religious edifices, and inscribing religious scriptures in both Pali and Romanized languages.
Additionally, arrangements were made to publish these Tripitaka books and encode them into tablets. The construction process of the Buddha Park was also outlined, along with plans for convenient arrangements to facilitate pilgrims, greening and beautification tasks, and a long-term maintenance plan.
During the ceremony, attendees donated a total of 5.04 billion kyats, 23,000 US dollars, and 100,000 bahts from 274 donors, both from home and abroad. These contributions are intended to support the ongoing construction process of the Maravijaya Buddha Image.
The Prime Minister accepted the donations and expressed his gratitude. After the ceremony, attendees viewed the miniature models of Maravijaya Buddha Image and Buddha Park as well as the religious scripture books written in Pali and Romanized languages and the Tablets containing these encoded scriptures. The attendees later took a tour around the Buddha Park.
