For trading of cattle in line with the notification No. 49/2017 of the Ministry of Commerce, the cattle transaction was legally allowed to abroad in 2017 for the benefits of local breeders.
Moreover, for expanding local and international markets, the trade and animal husbandry agreement will be extended, according to the Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department (LBVD) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation.
Dr Ye Tun Win, Director-General, Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department said “We need to maintain and protect cattle for the country and breeders. Today, most of the agriculture tasks are based on mechanized farming. The role of cattle for ploughing and cultivating becomes less. Cattle are invaluable asset of the country. We have signed a bilateral agreement on trading cattle with the People’s Republic of China in January 2020 and now, we are preparing for trading cattle between the two countries. Because of COVID-19 pandemic, the work process was a little bit delay. If the legal transaction is operated, the producers, traders and the country will gain benefits from the program.”
For the legal trade, a total of over 500,000 cattle have been exported to China via Muse route until December 2020, according to LBVD.
