The ceremony to offer 84,000 flowers in procession on the Wahgaung Full Moon Metta Day of 1388 ME was held Friday morning at the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon Region.
Yangon Region Chief Minister U Aung Naing Thu, members of the Yangon Region Government, officials from relevant departments, members of the Pagoda Board of Trustees, religious and devotional associations, and donors attended the ceremony and paid homage.
First, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Aung Naing Thu and officials offered rice, flowers, water, fruits and oil lamps at the southern prayer hall of Shwedagon Pagoda.
Next, the Chief Minister, members of Region Government, officials from relevant departments, members of the Pagoda Board of Trustees, religious and devotional associations, and donors began the flower procession from the gathering point at the hall housing the ancient Buddha images on the pagoda platform. They proceeded clockwise around the pagoda platform, paying homage.
Afterwards, members of the Pagoda Board of Trustees, religious and devotional associations, and donors offered flower stupas in homage to the Padamya Myet-Shin Buddha Image located on the upper terrace of the pagoda platform and to the Four Buddha Images; Kakusandha , Konagamana , Kassapa and Gotama ဂေါတမ, enshrined at the four direction entrance halls.
U Hla Myint (Rotational Patron), Shwedagon Pagoda Board of Trustee said "The Shwedagon Pagoda Board of Trustees regularly organizes monthly festivals on a grand scale so that the general public can clearly recognize and participate in them. Special festivals are held on every full moon day, each carrying its own significance. Today’s celebration is being held as Metta Day, with messages encouraging people to cultivate and spread loving-kindness and goodwill toward one another."
The ceremony was held as a religious observance to pay homage through the offering of flowers on the auspicious occasion of the Wahgaung Full Moon Metta Day, it’s reported.
