62nd Anniversary of Police Force Day: President attends ceremony in Nay Pyi Taw

A ceremony marking the 62ndAnniversary of Myanmar Police Force Day was held on the morning of October 1 at Myanmar International Convention Center-1 (MICC-1) in Nay Pyi Taw, attended by President U Min Aung Hlaing, who delivered an address. In his speech, the President highlighted that the Myanmar Police Force became a member state of INTERPOL in 1954 and joined ASEANAPOL in 1998, continuing to cooperate actively in combating transnational crime.

The President stressed to continue efforts against drug trafficking, human trafficking, money laundering and terrorist financing, while strengthening cooperation with international and regional agencies including the UNODC, INCB, DEA, INTERPOL and ASEANAPOL. He also called for greater use of digital policing, forensic science and modern investigation technologies, as well as improved collection and analysis of crime-related information.

The President also praised the members of police force for their sacrifices in serving duties, saying that 4,940 police officers received medals for bravery and performance between November 2025 and August 2026. He urged all to perform their duties lawfully and responsibly, respect human rights, strengthen public trust and continue building a modern, capable and disciplined police force.

This was followed by presenting of honorary awards to the recipients. The ceremony also featured screening of a video clip on the 62nd anniversary of Myanmar Police Force Day, and display of commemorative booths, representing the respective regions and states.

Myanmar reaffirmed a zero-tolerance policy toward online scams and illegal online gambling, saying such crimes pose serious risks to the public and the economy. A Central Committee on Combating Online Scams and Online Gambling was reconstituted in 2026, while the Law on Combating Online Fraud was enacted on July 31, 2026.

It is learnt that over 76,000 people had been arrested in connection with online scam and gambling operations between October 5, 2023 and September 29, 2026. Of these, over 73,000 were deported or transferred to their respective countries in accordance with procedures. In addition, 635 buildings linked to online scam operations in KK Park were demolished by January 9, 2026. A further 77 buildings in Shwe Kokko Myawaddy were also demolished.
