





Urea Fertilizer Purchase, Distribution and Sales Steering Committee held its work coordination meeting on Wednesday at the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development in Nay Pyi Taw.
Chairman of the Committee, Union Minister U Myo Zaw Thein attended the meeting and delivered opening remarks. The meeting emphasized to ensure the timely and efficient distribution of fertilizers to farmers, with the aim of increasing crop yields. By the end of September 2026, the Steering Committee had approved the provision of over 140,000 tons of urea fertilizer and more than 570,000 tons of compound and other fertilizers.
Close supervision is required to ensure the timely delivery of the remaining quantities for the monsoon paddy and crops under the crop-on-credit scheme, cash payment system, State Economic Promotion Fund, and Rice Export Zone (REZ) projects. The Steering Committee is implementing a non-profit cooperative consortium model for the collective purchase and distribution of fertilizers to benefit farmers, with the monthly announcement of reference prices.
Relevant authorities were urged to inspect township-level fertilizer outlets to ensure proper quality and scale, compliance with prescribed prices, and prevention of stockpiling and price speculation. Then, the secretary of the committee made clarification on work implementations based of decisions made during previous meeting and records of the approved quantities of fertilizers and pesticides for the 2026-2027 fiscal year. Then, current status of fertilizer purchase, distribution and sales were presented. After supplemented the discussions, the Union Minister concluded the meeting.
