Coordination Meeting: Meeting on road and traffic safety in Nay Pyi Taw held

A coordination meeting on road and traffic safety in Nay Pyi Taw was held this morning at Meeting Room No. 1 of the Nay Pyi Taw Council Office, with Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman U Kan Myint Than attending and delivering the opening remarks.

In his opening remarks, the Chairman said road safety measures are aimed at reducing and ultimately eliminating traffic accidents, injuries and fatalities, as well as the socioeconomic losses caused by such accidents. He stressed the importance of road infrastructure in ensuring road safety and called for the adequate installation of road signs, traffic signs and road markings on roads reconstructed following the Mandalay earthquake and on newly constructed roads. He also stressed the need for all motorcycle riders to wear quality helmets properly fastened with chin straps, for vehicles to comply with prescribed passenger and cargo limits and for speeding and drink-driving to be prevented. He further underscored the importance of all vehicle occupants wearing seat belts and called on relevant departments and organizations to conduct mobile inspections and take action against violations.

Officials then reported on the implementation of road safety measures in their respective sectors. The Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman gave necessary instructions and coordinated the measures required before delivering the concluding remarks.
