Inundation in Dawei: Heavy rainfall triggered floods in Tanintharyi Region

Some roads in Dawei Township of Tanintharyi Region were inundated and affected by water overflow due to heavy rainfall since the evening of September 26.

Accompanied by Region Government ministers and concerned officials, Taninthayi Region Chief Minister U Zaw Naing Oo inspected the conditions of water overflow at affected areas. The Chief Minister instructed officials to promptly repair affected roads, prioritize public access, improve drainage through the systematic construction of flood protection walls and remove debris while closely monitoring tidal changes during the full moon period.

Relief efforts are also underway in flood and landslide-affected areas across Tanintharyi Region, with drinking water, food, medicine and other assistance being provided. Inaccessible areas are also receiving support through local residents and charity social organizations.

According to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, heavy rainfall is likely across Myanmar from September 27 through September 30 due to a low-pressure area and strong monsoon conditions. People are advised to remain alert for flooding, landslides, strong winds and rough seas, particularly in vulnerable areas.
