Ceremony to Float the Ashes and Relics : Ceremony to float ashes of late Chan Myay Sayadawgyi

A ceremony to float the ashes and relics of the late Venerable Baddanta Janakabhivamsa Mahathera , the presiding Maha Nayaka Sayadaw of Chan Myay Yeiktha Monastery, State Ovadacariya, Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja , aged 99 with 79 years of Vassa, to the waters was held on September 26, at Thuwunnabhumi Event Park on Than Thu Mar  Road in Thingangyun Township, Yangon Region.

The ceremony was attended by Sayadaws and members of the Sangha led by the Joint Secretary Sayadaw of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, Union Minister for Religious Affairs U Tin Oo Lwin, and officials concerned.

First, the Sayadaws and members of the Sangha, the Union Minister and officials concerned ceremonially collected the bone relics and cremated remains of the late Chan Myay Yeiktha Sayadawgyi, in accordance with religious traditions and placed them in golden bags.

The golden reliquary urns containing the cremated remains were then ceremonially conveyed onto the Karaweik  decorated float. At the Kyanmayay  Jetty of the Myanma Port Authority, led by the Sayadaws and members of the Sangha, the Union Minister and officials conveyed the golden reliquary urns and golden bags, respectfully placed them on the throne aboard the Royal Green River vessel.

The vessel then proceeded to the confluence of Pazundaung Creek, the Yangon River and the Bago River. Upon arrival, the Joint Secretary Sayadaw of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee delivered a sermon in honour of the late Chan Myay Sayadaw, highlighting his contributions to the propagation of the Buddha Sasana and his attainments in Pariyatti and Patipatti and shared merits with the late Sayadaw.

The Union Minister and party then ceremonially consigned the golden reliquary urns and golden bags containing the cremated bone relics of the late Chan Myay Sayadaw to the waters. Following the ceremony, day meal was offered to the Sayadaws and members of the Sangha aboard the vessel.
