The Air Separation Plant of No. 2 Steel Mill (Pinpet) was commercially commissioned into service in Taunggyi Township, Shan State on March 8. Shan State Chief Minister U Aung Aung attended the ceremony together with Deputy Minister for Industry U Thwin Aung, officials, foreign experts and invited guests.
At the opening event, experts from Russia’s TPE Co., Ltd. demonstrated the properties of liquid nitrogen at –196°C using roses. The ceremony continued with a ribbon-cutting, after which the Chief Minister opened the workshop plaque and signboard by pressing a button and sprinkling scented water on the plaque.
The Chief Minister and party then toured the workshop control room to observe the machine’s test operation. They later watched a video screening on the air separation plant at the mill’s briefing hall. In his remarks, the Chief Minister said the Air Separation Plant would supply sufficient oxygen required for iron smelting and help the main furnace operate at the necessary level.
He added that the Pinpet Steel Mill would contribute to meeting the country’s growing demand for iron and steel while supporting industrial and social development in Shan State and creating job opportunities. He also expressed appreciation to foreign experts and Myanmar engineers for their cooperation and urged continued efforts to complete the remaining facilities, including the waste-to-energy power plant and the Romelt workshop.
The Deputy Minister highlighted that cooperation with foreign experts would allow Myanmar engineers to learn modern technologies, benefiting the country in the long term, while also stressing the importance of safety and compliance with operational standards.
The completion of the Air Separation Plant was described as a milestone in Russia–Myanmar industrial cooperation. After hearing reports by a Russian official, commemorative gifts were presented to the Chief Minister and Russian Expert group leader. The Chief Minister and party then toured documentary photo booths on the mill’s construction.
