In Tanintharyi Region, Dawei District, Yay-Phyu Township, Kalein Aung Town, near the entrance to Mayanchaung Village, beside the Mawlamyaing-Ye-Dawei Union Highway, a pressure-activated mine planted by terrorists exploded at around 10:45 a.m.

on September 1st, when it was stepped on, resulting in the death of a 2-year-old child and injuring the child’s parents with shrapnel wounds, it has been reported. The incident occurred when a family of three: U Ko Oo from a rubber plantation in Mayanchaung Village, Kalein Aung Town; his wife, Ma Zarchi Soe; and their 2-year-old son, Maung Myint Aung left for Kalein Aung Town at around 7:30 a.m. on a motorcycle to go shopping.

At around 10:45 a.m., upon reaching the entrance to Mayanchaung  Village, about 12 miles north of Kalein Aung Town, they found that terrorists had blocked the Union Highway which is a main public thoroughfare with tree branches.

As they attempted to bypass the obstruction by driving along the side of the road, their motorcycle detonated a pressure-activated mine planted by the terrorists. Due to the explosion, their 2-year-old son suffered fatal shrapnel wounds and died at the scene.

The parents, U Ko Oo and Ma Zarchi Soe, also sustained shrapnel injuries and were transported by social welfare organizations to Dawei Peoples’ Hospital for medical treatment. Terrorists have been engaging in acts of violence such as planting and detonating mines to destroy communication routes and bridges used by the public, blocking roads, planting mines that cause civilian casualties, using timed mines for destruction, and indiscriminately harassing and shooting at civilian vehicles.

These actions have led to the destruction of roads and bridges, disruption of transportation, and the death and injury of innocent civilians, including children. Local residents strongly condemn these terrorist acts, and security force members are intensifying necessary regional security operations, according to reports received.
