Steering Committee meeting: MCRD UM attended and delivered the opening remarks

The Urea Fertilizer Procurement, Distribution, and Sales Steering Committee held a coordination meeting, on June 26, at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development. Union Minister U Hla Moe, who serves as the Steering Committee Chairman, attended and delivered an opening address.

First, Union Minister U Hla Moe, in his opening remarks, stated that the Steering Committee has recommended import licenses for 676,055.06 tons of fertilizer and 11,024.10 tons of pesticides for April, May, and June of the 2025-26 fiscal year, with similar recommendations from the Ministry of Commerce.

He added that the committee will continue to review and recommend the remaining fertilizer and pesticide tonnages for import during the current fiscal year. He emphasized the urgent need for licensed companies to expedite imports to ensure sufficient input supplies for the current monsoon paddy season.

He also urged relevant member departments to collaborate in supervising efforts to ensure timely access to inputs, quality standards, and affordable prices. Following this, Permanent Secretary and Secretary of the Steering Committee U Khant Zaw, provided updates on the implementation of previous meeting resolutions and detailed the fertilizer and pesticide tonnages recommended for companies in May and June 2025.

The Chairman of the Myanmar Fertilizer, Seed, and Agricultural Pesticide Entrepreneurs Association then presented information on international prices of fertilizers and pesticides, as well as their procurement, distribution, sales, and usage status. Subsequently, the Steering Committee members Deputy Ministers supplemented the discussions with additional clarifications.

After that, representatives from the Central Bank of Myanmar and member departments of the committee, along with the Chairman of the Myanmar Rice Federation, engaged in a collective discussion and presentation. The Union Minister provided further instructions on the points raised and delivered his concluding remarks.
