





A coordination meeting on increasing tax revenues for Region and State governments was held at the meeting room of office No. 32 of the Ministry of Planning and Finance in Nay Pyi Taw on June 26.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Planning and Finance U Win Shein, the Chairman of the Nay Pyi Taw Development Committee, the Chairman of the Yangon City Development Committee, the Minister for Natural Resources from the Mandalay Region Government, Deputy Minister for Planning and Finance, Economic Ministers from Region and State governments, and other officials.
First, the Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister delivered an opening address. He highlighted that the Chairman of the State Administration Council and Prime Minister has instructed that tax collection should ensure full tax revenue for the state without imposing an undue burden on the public.
This means "strictly enforcing tax collection to ensure no eligible taxes are left uncollected from various sectors, without increasing existing tax rates." He explained that the State is rapidly continuing relief and rehabilitation efforts in earthquake-affected areas, which requires increased expenditure.
To cover these costs and reduce the budget deficit, the Union Government is striving to meet its tax collection targets. Similarly, he emphasized the need for region and state governments to strive to meet their own tax collection targets.
Following this, Deputy Minister for Planning and Finance U Min Htut, presented on the tax collection targets for the 2025-2026 fiscal year and the plans to review and implement modern tax collection models to create a robust and efficient tax management system etc.
Next, the Chairman of the Nay Pyi Taw Development Committee, Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee, Minister for Natural Resources from the Mandalay Region Government, and the Economic Ministers from various region and state governments presented and discussed the current property tax system and their efforts to increase tax revenue through effective tax systems within their respective regions. Finally, the Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister delivered concluding remarks, and the meeting was concluded.
