At 11 PM local time on March 30, China's International Search and Rescue Team (CISAR), consisting of 118 members, arrived in Nay Pyi Taw aboard two Y-20 transport aircraft of the Chinese Air Force.
The team brought with them six rescue dogs, two rescue vehicles, 634 types of rescue equipment, and medical supplies, immediately launching emergency rescue operations. Established in 2001, CISAR has previously participated in over 20 international disaster relief missions, including responses to the Indonesia tsunami, the Pakistan earthquake, and the Nepal earthquake.
The team meets the United Nations’ standards for a Heavy Rescue Team. The current CISAR delegation in Myanmar includes earthquake experts, structural engineers, search-and-rescue personnel, medical teams, and canine search units.
They are equipped with life detectors, building demolition tools, and field hospital systems, enabling them to conduct high-intensity rescue operations in two earthquake-affected areas continuously for 72 hours. So far, the Chinese government has dispatched four rescue teams to Myanmar: The Chinese rescue team, CISAR, the Yunnan Provincial Rescue and Medical Team, and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Rescue Team, totaling 288 personnel. Additionally, the Red Cross Society of China and over 15 civilian rescue teams from various regions of China have also arrived in Myanmar to assist in relief efforts.
