




The International Day of Yoga 2026 ceremony took place at Thuwunna National Indoor Stadium in Thingangyun Township of Yangon Region on Sunday.
Chief Minister U Aung Naing Thu attended the event, together with regional government members, Indian Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Abhay Thakur, officials and invited guests.
The Chief Minister and the Indian Ambassador delivered opening remarks. The event included a 40-minute yoga session led by a yoga instructor. A vibrant series of celebrations of the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 was organized by the Swami Vivekanand Cultural Centre, Embassy of India, Yangon across Myanmar.
Aligning with the global theme "Yoga for Healthy Ageing", a series of 9 yoga events were successfully conducted at various locations across Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw in the period April to June 2026 with a total of over 3500 enthusiastic participation.
Yoga, rooted in India's ancient civilizational heritage, has become a global tool for health, harmony, and inner peace. Yoga offers a sustainable path to lifelong wellness and resilience. The successful conduct of IDY 2026 series reaffirmed Yoga's universal appeal and its role in promoting physical well-being and mental health, as well as cultural ties between India and Myanmar.
