Providing Financial Assistance: Bago Region CM handed cash assistance and supplies

On the afternoon of October 22, Bago Region Chief Minister U Myo Swe Win, accompanied by regional ministers, attended a ceremony to distribute financial assistance and supplies to households affected by floods in the Taungoo District, held at Khapaung Hall in Taungoo Township.

First, the Chief Minister addressed saying that due to the heavy and continuous rains on September 11 and 12, caused by Typhoon Yagi, flooding occurred in the Taungoo District of Bago Region. As a result, 143 temporary flood relief camps were opened across five townships in the district, where 19,021 households and 73,851 people were safely relocated and provided food and shelters.

Due to the flooding, 596 homes were completely destroyed, and 622 homes were partially damaged in the district. The Chief Minister also emphasized the importance of disaster preparedness and encouraged people to live with awareness of natural disasters, working together with relevant authorities to implement preventive measures to minimize future losses.

After that, Chief Minister, Region Ministers, Chief of Staff (Region Command) distributed the financial assistance and supplies to the affected households. The Chief Minister and officials also engaged warmly with the local residents, offering words of encouragement.

In Taungoo District, due to Typhoon Yagi, a total of 484 homes in Taungoo Township were completely destroyed, and 617 homes were partially damaged. 83 homes in Yedashe Township, 28 homes in Oktwin Township, were completely destroyed, with five partially damaged.

In Thanatpin Township, one home was completely destroyed. Overall, a total of 596 homes were completely destroyed, and 622 homes were partially damaged. A total of 2,489.10 million kyats were provided in assistance for these affected households. 

Following this, the Chief Minister inspected the ongoing public recreational space development project between Htee Hlaing Road and ancient Ketumati moat, in Taungoo Township. He provided guidance and instructions to the relevant officials regarding necessary improvements.

Next, the Chief Minister and party visited the site on 1st Street in Ward 16, Taungoo, where the Bago Region MSMEs Regional Products Sales Center is planned to be opened. The Chief Minister inspected the area and gave further instructions on necessary preparations.

Later, the Chief Minister visited the ancient Ketumati moat in Taungoo and the Ayutthaya Arch, where he inspected the surroundings. He directed officials to ensure there are no encroachments along the ancient moat road, that cleanliness and order are maintained at all times, and that the sole water outlet from the moat into the Sittaung River remains unblocked to prevent waterway obstructions.

The Chief Minister and party also visited U Nyan Win’s soft paper pulp factory in Thawon Nge Ward, Ketumati town, Taungoo Township, which produces 10 tons of pulp per day.

He encouraged the factory's efforts to manufacture paper from rice straw, sugarcane bagasse, and bamboo as a substitute for imported products. The Chief Minister observed the paper production process using a recycling system and expressed his support for the factory’s operations.
