Indian classical languages: Classical language status to 5 Indian languages

The Consulate General of India in Mandalay organized a ceremony of commemorating classical language status to five Indian languages including Assamese, Bengali, Pali, Marathi, and Prakrit at Mandalay Convention Centre in Chanmyathazi Township on 22nd October and the event was attended by Region Chief Minister U Myo Aung, Region Ministers and officials and representatives from the Indian Consulate, including the Consul General of India in Mandalay, H.E. Mr. Sundeep Kaushal, and other invited guests.

At the ceremony, Consul General H.E. Mr. Sundeep Kaushal gave a welcoming speech, followed by a speech of congratulations by the Chief Minister of the Mandalay Region Government.

Following the speeches, a lecture on the Pali language and its significance in Myanmar was delivered by Venerable Bhuripañña, from the Sasana University,  Dr. Khin Myo Han, Head of the Department of Oriental Studies at Sagaing University, discussed the history and uniqueness of the Pali language.

Dr. Thi Thi Htun, Head of the Department of Oriental Studies at Mandalay University, also spoke about the Pali language. Additionally, U Shivlal Kumar Sil, a science teacher from School for Smart Learnerstalked on the history and cultural heritage of the Bengali language. Mahesh Mahadev Laundhe from MCTA School spoke on the history and unique aspects of the Marathi language. Following these discussions, Bengali scholar Madhujo Gopal recited a poem in Bengali.The event concluded with a speech on words of thanks by Mr. Uma Kant Sharma from the Indian Consulate.

Attendees, including the Chief Minister and officials from the Indian Consulate, watched a video clip and cultural performances celebrating India's classical languages.
