Bago Flood Aftermath: Prevention measures for infectious diseases

Under the guidance of the Natural Disaster Management Committee, health care workers from all regions and states arrived at the flooded areas in Bago Region for providing health care services to the people in those areas for prevention of related diseases after flooding.

Officials from the Department of Public Health from regions and states are implementing educative talks for personal hygiene activities, the ways to prevent infectious diseases, dengue fever and dangers of snakes in the flood-affected areas.

Thein Lwin, Department of Public Health (Bago), Township Medical Officer, said " When the water receded, our department is conducting educative talk for personal hygiene activities, prevention of infectious diseases and dangers of snakes and also provides water purification tablets to the flood-affected people. 46 volunteer teams under the department were comprised to be able to provide health care services in the flood-affected areas."

Moreover, the volunteer teams will carry out food safety and hygienic measures through door to door service in addition to the health care services. They will also provide drinking water and medicines to the affected people.

Team Leader, Dr. Ye Lin Kyaw, said " Two Rapid Response Teams with five members,representative Magway Region,are here to provide health care services. We share knowledge especially for food safety and personal hygiene. And, we also implement for prevention of diarrhea in flooded areas."

Furthermore, essential medicines are ready to be able to provide more health care services to flood-affected people in Bago Region.
