Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF) is cooperating with the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development, the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Planning and Finance in order to get fertilizers at a reasonable price for the farmers.

The federation is carrying out to get fertilizers at a reasonable price to provide monsoon paddy cultivation for the farmers and production.

Ye Min Aung, Chairman, Myanmar Rice Federation said “Upon cultivating rice and paddy, we cultivate 15 million acres of monsoon paddy annually, while cultivating only 2 million acres of summer paddy. The price of fertilizers is very high in international markets. In this kind of situation, the government has formed the Urea Fertilizer Purchase and Distribution Committee according to the peoples’ needs. The Union Minister for Cooperatives and Rural Development supervises the committee and hold meetings together. With their help, we are importing the fertilizers from the middle east and ASEAN countries and distribute to the farmers at a reasonable price.”

The federation also arranges to distribute urea fertilizers to the farmers in 10 Townships of Myanmar at a price of 85,000 kyats per bag.

Ye Min Aung, Chairman, Myanmar Rice Federation said “Farmers can increase per acre yield only if they use fertilizers. We plan to distribute urea fertilizers to the farmers in 10 Townships at a rate of 85,000 kyats per bag. Since we have difficulties in distributing to all farmers, we will only sell to farmers who can get loans from Myanma Agricultural Development Bank, who are members of the Agricultural Products Cooperative Society, and farmers who have a contract with members of Myanmar Rice Federation. It will save about 6% than the outside market price, while maintaining good quality.”

According to the Myanmar Rice Federation, the fertilizers will be distributed to 10 Townships; Myaungmya, Ma-ubin and Pathein townships in Ayeyawady Region, Paungde, Thegon and Minhla townships in Bago Region, Twantay, Dala and TaikKyi townships in Yangon Region, and Nay Pyi Taw Council Area.
