Qualified skilled workers are crucial for the international investors and employers when they are doing businesses.
In fact, National Skills Standards Authority (NSSA) is going to monitor and research workers’ proficiency by prioritizing especially from garment industries.
During 2021-2022 mini budget year, NSSA was able to conduct skills monitoring and researching activities with limitation, but in 2022-23 fiscal year, 5,000 garment employees are going to be monitored for skills proficiency and development, said Permanent Secretary from the Ministry of Labor.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labor, Nyunt Win said "When we say Labor-Intensive Industry, in the industrial zones, most workers are at the industries of garment, shoe and bag making. Among them, garment is the most. Only high proficiency level workers can perform the skilled works like designs, expensive raw items, etc. They can get more benefits based on qualified garments they produce and the relevant employers as well when those are imported to international market."
He continued that, only when more skilled workers emerge, international investors will come in case of achieving high price garments and special designs in the market. Therefore, the workers from garment industry need to hold official skill certificates so as to get more job opportunities from local and international employers.
Relating to that, MOL has been conducting monitoring and researching for skills development for the workers.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labor, Nyunt Win said "We are seeing that garment industry earn foreign income for the country in a certain ratio, and like when doing CMP industries, as being labor-intensive industries, we have high ratio of labor resources according to the census surveys in Myanmar. In fact, when high labor forces combine with the jobs, earning for the country will improve while production rate increases. So, by monitoring workers from the garment factory, they will become more qualified skilled workers and get skill certificates. Also it will benefit for the workers, employers and the country."
From 1st February 2021 to 13th May 2022, new 82 factories have been opened and 94 factories have been reopened, so a total of 176 factories are opened in this period. They are especially garment, shoe and bag making factories. According to the data, job opportunities for over 47,000 workers have been created through those factories, it’s learnt.
