The Nay Pyi Taw Walking Thingyan is being held in accordance with Myanmar traditional culture with cold water Thingyan and the offering charity foods at the intersection of the Si-Pin Guest House and Pyinmana-Taung Nyo Road in the Nay Pyi Taw Council Area on 14th April, the Descend Day of Maha Thingyan. Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn attended and encouraged the event.

First, the Union Minister distributed water bowls and noodles to the people and the civil service personnel who were participating in the Thingyan Water Festival in a civilized manner in accordance with Myanmar traditional culture in the Nay Pyi Taw Thingyan area, aiming to cleanse the bad from the old year by splashing water on each other in the New Year.

Then, Myanmar traditional snacks were served as a gift to the people participating in the Thingyan festival. They watched and encouraged people enjoying the food, splashing water with each other in a polite manner in the Thingyan pavilions, to wash away the bad things from the previous year and bring in the good things.

The Myanmar traditional Thingyan festival, which marks the transition from the old year to the new one, is celebrated with great enthusiasm in the regions and states including the Nay Pyi Taw Council area, as usual. However, due to the Major Mandalay earthquake that struck on March 28 this year, many people in the earthquake-affected areas suffered. Therefore, this year, the Myanmar traditional Thingyan festival is being celebrated as a peaceful Thingyan (Aye Thingyan) in accordance with traditional culture, without including joyful singing and dancing.

In honor of the efforts to have Myanmar Thanakha culture included in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, a Thanakha zone has been added to Nay Pyi Taw's Walking Thingyan, so that people can cherish and preserve the Myanmar traditional cultural heritage, Thanakha.
