Rescue and Relief Measures: Thai Rescue Team completes their Tour of Duty

On 5th April, a ceremony was held at Nay Pyi Taw Council Office to honor Thai Rescue Team who completed their tour of duty in rescue and relief measures at the areas affected by the severe earthquake and several aftershocks in Myanmar. 

Chairman of the National Disaster Managment Committee Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice Senior General Soe Win attended the ceremony and made a speech. First, a minute of silence was observed to show sympathy on the loss of lives and properties in Myanmar and Thailand due to devastating earthquake.

In his speech, the Vice Senior General said that the international rescue teams from 26 countries arrived in Myanmar as of 5th April, and assisting rescue measures at the earthquake hit areas. The rescue team from Thailand arrived Myanmar within the first 36 hours upholding good neighbourliness principles. Thailand also suffered from the severe earthquake recently in Bang Sue District of Bangkok and the rescue measures are conducted continuously at present.

The Vice Senior General expressed his appreciations for the strenuous efforts and generous provisions of the Thai rescue team and Thai Government despite of hardship within their own nation. The Vice Senior General conveyed heartfelt gratitude to the Kingdom of Thailand for its kindness and contribution towards Myanmar on behalf of Myanmar citizens and National Disaster Management Commitee.

The C-130 aircraft from Thailand, carrying 55 rescue members, 5 officials from Thai Embassy and relief items weighing 4,990 kg arrived at Nay Pyi Taw International Airport within the first 36 hours after the disaster.

Likewise, Thailand provided 4,372kg of foodstuff and essential goods on 30th March, 22,400 kg of foodstuff and commodities on 1st April and 36,462 kg of foodstuff and relief aids on 3rd April respectively.

Among Five Assessment, Search & Rescue – ASR Levels, the rescue team from Thailand have completed 4 levels which are Wide Area Assessment, Sector Assessment, Primary Search and Rescue and Secondary Search and Rescue at their assigned areas. The new rescue team from Thailand will arrive in Myanmar soon to continue assist the rescue measures in Myanmar.
