The religious ceremony of Maha Samaya Day was held across the country on Monday, the full moon day of the Myanmar month of Nayon. Kyi Lei Lei Aung visited the KyaukTawGyi Pagoda in Yangon to report the ceremony there.
Today is the full moon day of Nayon also called Ma-Har-Sa-Ma-Ya day, is a sacred day for Buddhists. On this significant day, the religious ceremony is held at the KyaukTawGyi pagoda in Yangon.
In this regard, Maha Samaya in Pali means a great occasion. It is a day when the Lord Buddha preached Maha Samaya Sutta to a gigantic number of His disciples such as members of the Sangha, laypersons, celestial beings, Brahmas and the others from various abodes. On the day of the great significant occasion called Maha Samaya Day, all the global people need to forge the good spirit with the intention to serve the interests of others as part of doing meritorious deeds. At this juncture, the meritorious deed is not only to donate cash and kindness to any others but also to show good mental and physical behaviours in relating to others by giving a helping hand for solving the various problems of others.
Member, Kyauktawgyi Pagoda Board of Trustees, Aung Zaya said "We’d hold a consecration ceremony together with the Maha Samaya Sutta recitation. As a special feature of this year, nuns will recite the Pathana Dhamma Discourses for 5 days starting from this evening at 5 p.m. For pilgrims, we made arrangement to peacefully pay homage to the Pagoda. I am glad to hear that the devotees come and pay homage to this Pagoda and their wishes are fulfilled."
Kyauktawgyi Pagoda is crowded with devotees, performing meritorious deeds, and paying homage to the Buddha Image.
Pilgrim, Nyaungdon Township, Ayeyawaddy Region, Than Naing said "I always make donations at pagodas on every full moon day like this. As a devout Buddhist, I refuge in the Lord Buddha and his teachings all the time. I come to this Pagoda on every auspicious day and pay respects to the Lord Buddha."
Pilgrim, Pyawbwe Township, Mandalay Region, Aye Myint Khaing said "I came together with my niece. On this auspicious day, I offered flowers to the Lord Buddha and donated cash. Our village also has a pagoda like the one in the Bodh Gaya, so I always make donations at the monastery there on auspicious day like the full moon day of Nayon every year."
Being the religious day of Myanmar Buddhist, pilgrims are crowded not only in the KyaukTawGyi pagoda but also in other prominent pagodas across the country. I am Kyi Lei Lei Aung from MITV, Myanmar International Television.
