The process has been carried out under the guidance of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture by drafting the detailed work plan.

The works began on April 24, and at present, about 70% of the works have already been completed.

Member, Shwedagon Pagoda Board of Trustees, Phoe Thin said “Previously, the pagoda was lighted by three 15-meter high lamp posts from the platform. As for the upgrade, we have erected one 15-meter high lamp post on the platform, four 25-meter high posts and one 15-meter high post near Rakhine Prayer Hall.”

The upgrading works is carried out with the donated cash by the devotees, and the public can pay homage to the pagoda, gilded in glorious golden light, once it was completed.

Member, Shwedagon Pagoda Board of Trustees, Phoe Thin said “Likewise on the upper terrace, the previously installed 16 lamp posts have been replaced with LED lamp posts. So, the pagoda will become more  revered with sparkling light. Moreover, the it will ensure more electricity security due to the use of high technology.”

And it could help reduce the electricity consumption.

The upgrading process is being implemented by the tender winning Krislite Company, and it is targeted to complete by the first week of December.
