A section of the Nyaungdon Island Embankment along a branch of the Ayeyawady River was damaged by riverbank erosion on Tuesday morning.

The damaged section is located between mileposts 11/6 and 11/7 near Chaung Phyar Village in Nyaungdon Township of Ayeyawady Region. Following the incident, emergency measures were launched to prevent further damage.

Authorities, security personnel, social organizations and local residents have been working together to reinforce the embankment with sandbags and heavy machinery, while a temporary protective embankment is also being constructed. On Wednesday, Ayeyawady Region Chief Minister U Aye Kyaw, accompanied by concerned officials, inspected the damaged section and the ongoing repair and protection works. The Chief Minister called for urgent measures to prevent further erosion and ensure the safety of local residents and their property.
