Due to a powerful earthquake on March 28, 2025, significant damage and loss occurred across Myanmar, particularly in the Sagaing Region, Mandalay Region, Magway Region, Shan State (North-East), Nay Pyi Taw Council Area, and the Bago Region.

In response, the relief and recovery operations have been underway to assist the affected people. To support these efforts, the Indian Navy, via the naval ships INS Satpura (F-48) and INS Savitri (P-53), brought humanitarian assistance, including rescue materials, food supplies and medicines and medical equipment.

The ships arrived at the Thilawa Port (MITT) in Yangon on March 31 at around 2:00 PM. The senior officials of Tatmadaw (Navy) and other responsible personnel warmly welcomed the arrival. A ceremony for the handover of the relief materials and food supplies was held, with attendance from Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, Commander of Yangon Command Brigadier General Pyae Sone Lin, Region Government Ministers, Senior officials from Tatmadaw (Navy), the Indian Ambassador to Myanmar, and other relevant officials.

During the event, the Indian Ambassador to Myanmar explained the support provided through the humanitarian materials and food supplies. Following that, the Indian Ambassador handed over the aid materials to the Yangon Region Chief Minister, who accepted them with gratitude. The Indian naval ships that arrived on March 31 brought relief materials, food, and medicines, with an estimated total weight of around 40 tons. These supplies will be distributed to the earthquake-affected regions under the supervision of the Yangon Region Government, it’s reported.
