




The meeting between the Union Election Commission and the registered political parties was held at the meeting hall of the Union Election Commission office in Nay Pyi Taw at 9:00 a.m. on August 26.
At the meeting, Chairman of the Union Election Commission, U Than Soe, delivered a speech. He stated that among the political parties that applied in accordance with the political party registration law and by-laws, 61 political parties have been granted registration. This includes 9 parties that will organize across the entire Union and 52 parties that will organize only within one Region or State. He mentioned that all political parties that applied in line with the law have been reviewed and approved.
Furthermore, the UEC Chairman emphasized that political parties must ensure they meet the required number of party members and offices and submit this information to the Commission by the deadline of September 7, 2025.
He urged parties to note the educational qualification requirement for candidate applications, which is the completion of basic education high school level. For future elections, candidates must be graduates from a government-recognized university or college, and he advised political parties to start preparing for this now. He encouraged parties to select and nominate candidates who are trusted by the people and will benefit the country.
Regarding the Myanmar Electronic Voting Machine (MEVM), he reported that over 800,000 voters have been educated and tested on it, with no errors occurring and only accurate results obtained. To ensure the successful holding of elections, a law has been enacted to protect against disruption, sabotage, and obstruction of multi-party democracy general elections. Measures have been taken to provide security protection for the election process and for the political parties and voters participating in the elections.
He emphasized that a successful election requires the harmonious and balanced cooperation of the three stakeholders: the Commission, the competing political parties, and the voter citizens. The Commission is committed to holding a free and fair election in accordance with the law and called on political parties to collaborate hand in hand for the successful conduct of the elections.
Subsequently, representatives from the attending political parties discussed matters related to the elections and political party affairs. UEC members, officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the General Administration Department, and the Ministry of Immigration and Population provided clarifications and engaged in discussions.
Afterwards, the UEC Chairman provided additional necessary instructions, delivered concluding remarks, and closed the meeting.
The meeting was attended by members of the Union Election Commission, officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the General Administration Department, and the Ministry of Immigration and Population, responsible personnel from the Union Election Commission Office, and chairs, leaders, and responsible persons from the 61 political parties.
