Meeting in NSPC: NSPNC and registered political parties held meeting

The meeting between the National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) and registered political parties was held at the National Solidarity and Peace-making Center in Nay Pyi Taw on December 5.

The meeting was attended by Union Minister for Border Affairs and Chairman of the NSPNC, Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung, along with committee members, as well as chairpersons, vice chairpersons, secretaries, central executive committee members, and representatives from 51 registered political parties.

During the meeting, Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung delivered an opening speech, emphasizing the need to adopt a federal system compatible with Myanmar, recognize and accept differences, and resolve them through mutual understanding based on Union spirit.

He highlighted the importance of fostering national unity by eliminating regionalism, racism, and ideologies that cause division while promoting patriotic-spirit and genuine national-spirit that is Union-spirit.

He also discussed past engagements with political parties, considerations for amending provisions of the 2008 Constitution deemed necessary, ongoing peace processes based on the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA), public outreach for peace efforts, and plans to ensure a free and fair multi-party democratic general election.

Furthermore, he emphasized building a federal democratic Union and achieving lasting peace and stability. Next, NSPNC Secretary Lt-Gen Min Naing outlined the objectives of the discussions, the structure and goals of the NSPNC, and its ongoing peace dialogue processes.

He also explained the role of political parties, efforts to strengthen their capacity, and initiatives to enhance the performances of party members. Following this, six political party representatives who participated in a constitutional dialogue visit to India during the first week of November shared their experiences. They discussed topics such as the role of the President and governors under India's Constitution, federal restructuring, power-sharing and revenue allocation, regional governance practices, self-administration systems, and coexistence in a modern nation-state with diverse languages and cultures.

Attendees actively participated by asking questions and engaging in discussions. Subsequently, NSPNC member Lt-Gen Win Bo Shein (Retired) presented the findings gathered from discussions on amending the 2008 Constitution and responded to questions from the attendees.

Later, 15 political party representatives cordially and openly expressed their views and suggestions regarding the establishment of a federal democratic Union and first day of the meeting then concluded. The second day of the meeting would continue on December 6, it’s learnt.
