Media Cooperation: Lancang – Mekong Audiovisual Week

The 5th Lancang – Mekong Audiovisual Week will be held from 17th to 20th June in Kuming, Yuxi and other cities in Yunnan province of the People’s Republic of China.

The launching ceremony was held Monday at Studio-1 of Yunnan Radio and TV Station in Kunming. It was attended by Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn, Deputy Minister for National Radio and Television Administration Mr. Yang Guorui, and other dignitaries including Member of the Standing Committee of Yunnan Province Party Committee and Director of the Public Affairs Department Mr. Zeng Yan, Vice Governor of Yunnan Province Mr. Yang Yang together with department heads and officials from Lancang-Mekong countries such as China, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam, as well as invited representatives from Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.

Union Minister U Maung Maung Ohn emphasized Myanmar's longstanding relationships with regional and neighboring countries, actively engaging in cooperative endeavors based on principles of friendship, mutual trust, respect, peaceful coexistence, and equality. He highlighted Myanmar's media-related legislation aimed at promoting media pluralism.

Myanmar Radio and Television (MRTV) has forged partnerships with broadcasting stations from Lancang-Mekong countries such as Thailand's Public Relations Department (PRD), China's National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA), China Media Group (CMG), Guangxi Broadcasting and Television (GXRTV), and Vietnam's Voice of Vietnam (VOV), facilitating staff training, high-level visits, and television series broadcasts.

The Union Minister urged all members of Lancang-Mekong countries to intensify efforts in fostering relationships based on mutual respect, trust, equality, understanding, and cooperation, fostering enduring friendship and collaboration in the years ahead. Subsequently, high-level representatives from Lancang-Mekong and South Asian countries inaugurated the ceremony by pressing the auto button.

The event featured performances showcasing unique traditional dances and songs from the Lancang-Mekong region, as well as television series portraying authentic lifestyles and regional products from Yunnan, South Asia, and Southeast Asian countries.

The 5th LMAW is jointly organized by the The National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA) and People's Government of Yunnan Province, China to achieve Lancang-Mekong audiovisual cooperation, promote audiovisual exchanges and cooperation in six countries of Lancang-Mekong region, to make Yunnan a focal point in the communication between South and Southeast Asian countries, and to show the achievements of BRI cooperation.
